The truth about vibe coding

De waarheid over vibe coding

A new wind is blowing through the tech world: vibe coding. A term that sounds like a lifestyle, but is increasingly being mentioned as a serious approach in software development. Developers are talking to AI, giving instructions in plain language, and seeing immediate results. No lines of code, no configurations, just: idea in, app out. And honestly—it’s impressive.

“AI is going to permanently change software development. But even the best AI needs structure. Otherwise, you’re building a house without a foundation.”

What exactly is vibe coding?

Vibe coding is about building intuitively with the help of AI. Tools like Lovable, Bolt, and Replit allow you to create an application without in-depth technical knowledge. You describe what you want, the AI generates the code, and you adjust it where necessary. Instead of coding, you communicate. Instead of debugging, you prompt.

Why it’s so popular among startups

Startups love speed, and rightfully so. You want to quickly launch an MVP, test with users, and iterate. Vibe coding provides that speed. You don’t need to assemble a whole team or spend months on architecture. With a small team (sometimes even solo), you can go live. Not only is that efficient, but it also lowers the entry barrier for new ideas.

But is it also a solid foundation?

And that’s where the problem lies. While vibe coding is ideal for getting something off the ground, it’s rarely suitable for building on. AI writes working code, but it’s not necessarily scalable, well-documented, or secure. Anyone who later wants to expand or bring in other developers will quickly hit limitations:

  • Lack of structure: The code often lacks consistency or logical organization.
  • No clear documentation: What the AI generates is hard to read back or explain to colleagues.
  • Security? Not guaranteed. AI doesn’t always understand what’s safe for your use case.
  • Technical debt: What works quickly is later difficult to maintain or refactor.

What we see

We work with many startups. And yes, we see the value of vibe coding—as an experimentation tool. Some clients even use it internally to validate ideas or quickly visualize a user flow. But we also see how quickly an AI-based codebase becomes unsustainable once you want to seriously grow or scale.

“We use AI every day. But we always combine it with human insight. Because quality, scalability, and security can’t be handled with just prompts.”

Using AI? Certainly. But with direction and quality.

AI has a place in modern software development. We use it daily in our own processes: for code generation, test automation, documentation, or even UX copy. But always as an assistant, never as the final decision-maker. Quality, security, and scalability remain the work of humans. It’s about using it correctly at the right time.

Our approach: building for the long term

At GlobalOrange, we develop digital products that are future-proof. Our code is clearly structured, secure, and scalable. Built on standard frameworks and proven technology. This allows our clients to easily continue development, bring in other developers, and remain compliant with security and compliance requirements. Without vendor lock-in or unnecessary complexity.

What we advise startups

Use vibe coding to experiment, explore, and play. But as soon as you’re building something that needs to have a real impact—something customers will use, something that needs to integrate, something that needs to grow with your company—opt for a robust approach. Combine speed with craftsmanship. Use AI smartly, but keep humans at the helm.

And AI then?

AI changes everything. And that’s a good thing. But as digital product developers, it’s not only about what’s technically possible, but also about what’s wise. We help our clients make the right choices every day: what should you build, and what should you not? Where do you choose speed, and where do you choose quality? That balance is essential for sustainable growth.
