Ticketscript: scaling product development for a growing ticketing platform
A growing ticketing platform needs to serve two groups well: organisers managing their events and visitors who want to buy a ticket easily. Ticketscript already had its own product development department, but wanted greater development capacity to support growth.
GlobalOrange worked with Ticketscript’s product owners on new front-end and back-end functionality and an Android app for on-site sales. Four teams worked in parallel, with attention to usability, quality and scalability.
Challenge
Add development capacity and specialist knowledge alongside an established product organisation.
Approach
Four parallel teams working with the client’s product owners on web functionality and a mobile point-of-sale app.
Result
New front-end and back-end functionality and an Android app for on-site ticket sales, supporting online and offline use.
Scaling up while retaining product direction
Ticketscript was looking for additional capacity and expertise to achieve more alongside its own product organisation. Its product owners worked with parallel Scrum teams from GlobalOrange.
Specialists in architecture, UX and product management joined where needed. This allowed Ticketscript to develop several parts of the product at once while accounting for user growth and platform quality.
The collaboration shows how software development can fit an existing product organisation and roadmap.
Ticket sales at the desk and at the entrance
An event organiser works differently from a colleague at the entrance. The web application needed to work well on mobile phones, tablets and laptops. The original case describes Ticketscript testing the product on 1,800 devices with different resolutions and operating systems.
For on-site sales, GlobalOrange developed an Android point-of-sale app that could be used both online and offline. Usability, performance, security and scalability were key requirements.
Explore how we develop apps around the work their users need to do.
A platform during a period of growth
The original Ticketscript case reports more than 20 million tickets sold and €8.6 million in growth funding. Ticketscript was later acquired by Eventbrite.
These milestones provide the context for the collaboration. GlobalOrange’s contribution was the development of the software and mobile app, supported by specialist product and technical knowledge.
