Larsa Runway Scheduling app optimized with AI
With Larsa, pilots save time by planning their flight in advance and reserving a takeoff or landing runway. During the reservation process, pilots immediately see the most suitable time to carry out their flight.
CHALLENGE
Commissioned by Lelystad Airport, GlobalOrange developed the Lelystad Airport Runway Scheduling App, or Larsa, together with app designer Pixplicity and AirportCreators. The biggest challenge was to use the runways as efficiently as possible.
APPROACH
- Product strategy
- Product / AI design modeling
- Product development
RESULT
- Unique scheduling product for pilots
- Smart AI algorithm to calculate runway load
LARSA software
With the product developed by GlobalOrange, Pixplicity, and AirportCreators, pilots can schedule their General Aviation flight at Lelystad Airport in three simple steps. LARSA allows them to plan, modify, or cancel a flight up to one hour in advance. The mobile app also keeps users informed about the operational status at the airport. If desired, users can plan their activity around peak times.

LARSA in practice
When scheduling a flight, pilots select the activity they want to perform—such as VFR/IFR arrival or departure. They then choose the desired date and time for the selected activity. The application informs users whether that time is suitable for the activity in question. After confirmation, they are returned to an overview of all scheduled flights.
LARSA is available for download via Google Play and the App Store. Naturally, the application can also be used through a web browser.

Smart recommendations and adaptive interfaces make your product more intuitive and engaging.
LARSA is not the first digital product GlobalOrange has developed for pilots
GlobalOrange also developed the MORE Energy app specifically for pilots. In collaboration with KLM, VUmc is exploring ways to help pilots stay fitter and healthier.
The MORE Energy app is a collaboration between KLM, KLM Health Services, and the Department of Social Medicine at VUmc. The innovative app was nominated for the TEDx Amsterdam Award.
Since pilots typically use MORE Energy on mobile devices, the user interface design has been optimized for smartphones and tablets. The specific characteristics of iOS and Android have been taken into account. A back-end system was developed to adjust the scientific model and measure the research results.
