Measuremen: from workplace expertise to a scalable SaaS platform
Organisations can improve their workplaces more effectively when they understand how people use them. Measuremen combines observations, sensor data and surveys to reveal occupancy, work activities and employee experience.
Technical problems in the existing software were holding back further development of the service. GlobalOrange took over the platform from the previous IT partner, modernised the code and helped Measuremen move from project-based software to a scalable SaaS product.
Challenge
Remove technical limitations so the software could support the growth of the service.

Take over and refactor the platform, using automated testing, continuous delivery and AWS Lambda.

Greater stability and reliability, with a platform for further product development. The original case describes use across 500,000 workplaces in 29 countries.

From workplace data to better decisions
An empty meeting room and an employee without a suitable workspace can exist in the same building. Measuremen shows how the physical environment is used and how people experience it. The platform brings together specialist measurement tools, surveys and digital products.
These insights help customers make informed decisions about their workplaces. In the original case, Measuremen describes educational institutions using occupancy data to improve timetables and lecture hall utilisation. Software makes Measuremen’s domain expertise available at greater scale.
Bringing technology back in line with ambition
In 2017, Measuremen sought a development partner to turn its legacy software into a SaaS product. GlobalOrange modernised the platform and improved its foundation for stability, reliability and ongoing development.
Automated testing and continuous delivery enabled controlled software updates. AWS Lambda allowed functionality to run on demand and capacity to adapt to usage. These technical choices served a business goal: developing the service further without repeatedly running into the same limitations.
